Accounting - All School Year - Partial Day Accounting prepares students to work using manual and computerized accounting, spreadsheets, business math and calculators. Graduates are employable in tax, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and billing for a variety of businesses. Administrative Assistant - All School Year - Partial Day This program prepares students to work in today’s electronic office with hands-on operation of word processing and data entry software programs and supporting skills such as grammar, communications, proofreading, business machines and office procedures. Includes latest techniques for filing, mail handling, telephone usage and reprographics. Advanced students have an option to work with spreadsheet and database software. Automotive Collision Repair - All School Year - Partial Day In this National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) approved program, the student will be introduced to the basic skills of auto body welding, metal straightening, removing and replacing car body parts, plastic fillers, surface preparations, spray gun techniques and refinishing, rust repair and detailing. Safety is stressed throughout the course. A $30 fee is charged to the students for materials in this class. Automotive Technology - All School Year - Partial Day Automotive Technology gives students who complete both the high school and post-secondary portions of the program the skills necessary to pass the written portion of the Automotive Service Excellence certification tests and enter the field as an ASE technician. Classes are hands-on and meet the highest standards outlined by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) which has accredited the program. Approximately $40 for special workbooks are charged to HS students for this program. CAD - All School Year - Partial Day Computer-Aided Drafting consists of an in-depth coverage of drafting on the latest industry software. Students will cover basic and advanced 2D drafting and 3D drafting. Students will also complete special projects that could include architectural drafting or projects of their choice. Those returning for the postsecondary program to receive a certificate will cover civil and surveying drafting, micro-station review and process pipe drafting. Computer Applications - All School Year - Partial Day Students learn web page design and computer applications used by business and industry, including the operating system and techniques of organizing, manipulating, accessing and evaluating information. The latest windows, word processing, spreadsheet, database and web page design programs will be taught. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is also available. This class meets the prerequisite for Computer Repair and Network Applications. Computer Repair - All School Year - Partial Day This course prepares students for careers as computer repair technicians who maintain, upgrade and install personal computers or other computerized equipment. Program completers are qualified to take the A+ Certification test. Enrollees must have documented experience with DOS, windows, word processing and one other software package. Those without this prerequisite need to enroll in Computer Applications first or interview with and be approved by the instructor prior to enrollment. Construction Technology - All School Year - Partial Day Construction Technology is designed to provide the student with experiences that are common to the construction industry and provide basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, wiring, masonry, painting, tile, most home construction and other building trade occupations. The major project for the course is the construction of a house from the foundation work to the finishing touches. Apprenticeship opportunities with over 10 skilled craft unions are available through the Construction Apprenticeship Tech Prep Consortium for ATS graduates. Cosmetology - All School Year - Partial Day The Cosmetology curriculum is highly structured and developed to prepare students for the State Board of Cosmetology examination which requires a score of 75% or better to work as a licensed cosmetologist in Kansas. Cosmetology is more than just styling hair. It involves chemistry, anatomy, math, reading, communication and business skills. HS students begin the program their senior year (9:30 am - 3 pm) and should complete the 1500 hours after approximately four months as a postsecondary student (7:30 am - 3 pm), assuming they have good attendance. * Students must provide uniforms for this class and also purchase a supply kit which costs approximately $300. Early Childhood Education - All School Year - Partial Day This program prepares individuals for entry-level positions in child care centers, preschools, or other areas where caring for young children is the principal function. The course focuses on normal physical, emotional, and social growth and development, plus play activities, nutrition, guidance and discipline, safety, health, and approaches for teaching children. Students receive hands-on training through lab experiences and internships. Transportation to and from internship sites will be the responsibility of the student. Students must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Prerequisites include completion of a KDHE health assessment and negative TB test results. Facilities Management Technology - All School Year - Partial Day This program includes extensive hands-on experience and a variety of practical classroom activities. Formerly known as Building Maintenance, the curriculum covers painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical maintenance and landscaping to give students the fundamental knowledge required to maintain today’s buildings. Major emphasis is placed on general maintenance practices. Students may, however, concentrate on a specific area and specialize in a field such as plumbing or electricity. EPA certification is also included. Apprenticeship opportunities with over 10 skilled craft unions are available through the Construction Apprenticeship Tech Prep Consortium for ATS graduates. Graphic Design / Printing - All School Year - Partial Day This program prepares students to work in the printing industry (the 3rd largest employer in Kansas) or for companies that produce items such as catalogs, brochures, reports, business cards, menus, t-shirt designs, etc. Students will first receive an introduction to graphic design, offset lithography, screen printing and digital embroidery. Major emphasis will be on the work flow and production in a printing facility. The student will experience a “real working environment” with hands-on projects. Computer software used includes Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. ATS has received PrintED national accreditation. Health Careers - One semester - Partial Day This semester-long program prepares a high school senior to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and also explore other career choices in the health field such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, laboratory science, radiology, etc. At the end of the semester, the student is eligible to take the state CNA exam. Training includes some clinical experience in a health care setting. * Students must provide uniforms for this work experience. Health Careers is now only one semester, either first or second. Enrollees must designate which they prefer, and ATS will confirm assignments based upon space availability. (This class is not eligible for college transfer credit.) Students who complete this program during the first semester may wish to start the new Medical Assistant Program second semester to gain both medical administrative and clinical skills. Heating and Refrigeration - All School Year - Partial Day Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) technicians are in demand installing and maintaining heating and cooling systems for domestic and commercial use. This program covers fundamentals of electricity and refrigeration along with sheet metal fabrication, soldering and brazing, system servicing and troubleshooting. This program is approved for EPA refrigerant certification. Machine Technology - All School Year - Partial Day Industry provides many jobs for machinists who operate machine tools that grasp metal and form specific products through cutting, drilling and grinding machines. The student is allowed to progress at his or her own pace to achieve skills in the use of the milling machine, lathe, drill press, band saw, grinding machine and computer-controlled equipment. Blueprint reading and metal identification are also covered. Medical Assistant - All School Year - Partial Day Medical assistants are multi-skilled professionals assisting in patient care management. They perform administrative (front office) and clinical duties (back office) and may manage emergency situations, facilities and/or personnel. Medical assistants work in physicians’ offices, clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities under the supervision of a physician. Curriculum includes office skills, basic patient care and some work with medical lab equipment. Multimedia and Video Production - All School Year - Partial Day Multimedia is for the student who is part technician and part creator. The curriculum covers digital techniques for video and audio recording, editing, introduction to game creation, animation, web design and CD authoring. Graduates are employable as multimedia production specialists creating web pages, videos and other multimedia materials for companies large and small. Enrollees should have experience with Windows or Macintosh computers, desktop publishing software and/or computer graphics. Network Applications - All School Year - Partial Day Network Applications is a study of how computers share information on Local Area Networks (LANS) and Wide Area Networks (WANS/Internet) to prepare graduates for positions as a computer network cable installer or network administrator. Students can be certified as a Cisco Certified Network Associate and/or in Network Plus or Cisco Voice and Data Cabling. Enrollees must have documented experience with DOS, windows, word processing and one other software package. Those without this prerequisite need to enroll in Computer Applications first or interview with and be approved by the instructor prior to enrollment. Those who have completed a year of Cisco training in another high school should enroll in the afternoon section to complete Cisco courses 2 - 4. Office Assistant - All School Year - Partial Day This program is designed to prepare students for basic and routine jobs that are part of the office worker’s world, including customer service, data entry, handling mail, answering phones and maintaining records. The program includes instruction in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, data entry, 10-key calculator, math and recordkeeping, business English and office procedures. Professional Cooking - All School Year - Partial Day The Professional Cooking program teaches students to master the fundamentals of food preparation for positions in hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, nursing homes, catering, etc. The program contains daily classroom instruction with practical work experience in the operation of the school cafeteria and food service preparation for the child care center, public meetings and banquets. Welding and Fabrication - All School Year - Partial Day This program provides skills for employment in welding, manufacturing or fabrication positions. Processes covered include shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc and oxy-acetylene welding, oxy-acetylene cutting and plasma arc cutting, using semi-automatic and manual methods. Blueprint reading, math, workplace skills and metallurgy are included. American Welding Society (AWS) certification is available at ATS.
